This is the heart of Delhi. The India Gate was established in 1921 and completed in 1931. It is a memorial to the Indian soldiers who died in World War I and the Afghan wars. A broad avenue runs from the gate up the hill to the Parliament buildings and then to a large and intricate iron gate that fences off the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India. The day we visited the fence was a playground for many monkeys. To the side of the residence are the Mughal Gardens, which are open to the public in the spring.
