Fire at 8 Box Seat Lane. Smoke beginning to appear in 7 Box Seat Lane.
The fire had jumped to the roof of #7. Our condo, #5, is at the far right. It was untouched.
8 Box Seat Lane is almost destroyed. The fire has jumped to the roof of #7.
It was hot and humid, so firemen could only work a short time in heavy equipment.
Equipment from all of the surrounding towns responded: Cooperstown, Springfield, Richfield Springs, Westward, Hartwick.
The firemen were able to knock down the fire before it spread badly.
The upper part of 8 Box Seat Lane was destroyed. The lower level suffered catastrophic water damage.
EMS and other medical volunteers came. They were especially needed because the heat and humidity were severe.
The neighbors could do little but watch.
